Geschwind sent us last autumn 13 different climbers under the name „Hungarian Climbers“ to bring into commerce and thus have them tested by roselovers… Aennchen von Tharau: A hybrid between Rosa alba and an Ayrshire-rose, with strong canes, beautuful foliage and branches with sharp prickles. Large to medium size blooms, in clusters, densely full, beautiful centifolia form, cream-white, inside shaded yellowish-flesh-red. Very tender colouring! Blooms rich, grows vigorusly, is well-branched, is content with all type of soil and every location and resists all effects of moisture and cold.

Vigorous, with 3-4 m long annual canes, upright. Canes thick, very prickly, dense foliage, blooms solitary or in small clusters, large; formed like Marie Baumann, scarlet-crimson, often shaded purple, densely full. Hardy and very good for trellises, but requires moist ground and blooms very well, even in northerly locations.

Already as a shrub she shows a tendency to arch; grafted as a tree and in good moist soil, she produces annual canes of up to 2 m, which, although thick, arch to the ground when full of blooms. In not too dry summers and soils, is the large, densely full, flat bloom almost purple-blue or violet-blue, mostly with a dark red heart, and in this colour she is the only rose hitherto which nears a real blue, surpassing herein Reine des Violettes, Violacea, Dr. Hogg and others of similar colour. Watched from a distance of some meters, sometimes individual blooms which are coloured especially dark, appear almost black.

Dark green foliage, almost evergreen, beautiful. Blooms in clusters. Medium size blooms, flat cup form, well double and fine form, light carmine-purple, often passing to crimson. Effectful and hardy!

Medium size bloom and in numerous clusters, so that the shrub in full bloom lokks like snowed in. The blooms are of course only medium size and scarcely more than semi-double, but beautifully flat cup form and so closely built that the lack of fullness is not so evident. The colour varies in all steps between white, pink and purple pink, not seldom striped and lined white, often individual petals totally white, with pright purple-rosy edges, so that the white middle contrasts nicely; a colouring which does not exist otherwise with roses. This hybrid requires a northerly wall, as she fades too fast in a southern, sunny location. Upright growth, vigorously climbing.
