'West Coast ®' rose Reviews & Comments
-
-
Are either of these words of Maori origin - Nauru and Ngauru? Ngauru appeared in the early New Zealand references, but Nauru was registered. I have noted other odd spellings in the literature.
Am trying to sort out the oddities between 76/870. 'West Coast' MACnauru and (Red Planet x Arturo Toscanini) 75/483. 'Pink Charm' MACsatur. (Sunday x Ferry Porsche) Both are pink HTs and both have been called 'Penthouse'. Both have different parentages.
Later edit. See also 79/1125. Ngauruhoe (hybrid tea, McGredy 1979) (Marin County x Crisp)
If anyone has any references or advice on the Penthouse affair, I would be grateful.

ROSA, page 425 gives the breeding of MACnauru as [((Yellow Pages X Kabuki) X Golden Gate) X (seedling X Picasso)]

They were nearly right. We have (Marin County x Crisp) from Sam’s breeding records. Now if in ‘West Coast’ you open LINEAGE / PARENTAGE TREE, you will see (Marin County x Crisp) and their parentages.

Who supplied the breeding information to the registration authority? - Sam McGredy. Was this a case of Sam treating people like ducks and drakes?

Very good question. I don’t know. But Sam supplied wood to his distributors to test them out. I think if they grew well in the distributors country, the distributor would have registered them.

Agree, but the information had to originate from Sam in the first place.
