Book (1998) Page(s) 111. Nola Simpson. Final Analysis 1997-98. Miniatures. 'Lucky Me'. SOCluck. Eagle 1993. 'Heidi' seedling. Mauve pink; 46 reports on 67 plants; 45 cms. 7.0 rating. The reports on this mauve pink miniature have been variable over the years. In general it has done better and been more popular in the South Island, the far north have had real difficulties growing it and many have now discarded. The colour is usually given as the best feature, it is mainly healthy although powdery mildew was mentioned in some reports. The plants are low growing and wide, the stems are inclined to be weak and the flower production could be improved. It seems to be one of those roses you either like it or not so keen and there is nothing particularly memorable about it.
Book (1997) Page(s) 97. Nola Simpson. Review of Newer Roses for 1996-97 Season. Miniatures. 'Lucky Me'. Eagle 1993. 'Heidi' x Seedling. Mauve pink; 9 reports on 12 plants; 2-5 years; 45cms; 6.7 rating. Highest ratings come from the South Island, not so thrilled in the North Island. Otago finds always in bloom, colour and form good, wide bush. Northland says it makes a good garden display, bright purple colouring and has improved since shifting. Kaitaia is discarding, plant has never come away, likes colour. South Canterbury is not excited about the colour and says just another pink. Wairarapa fed up and is discarding. North Harbour says stems weak, and finally North Otago grows it in container as well as garden and is good in both, flowers hold well.
Book (1995) Page(s) 98. Nola Simpson. Review of Newer Roses for 1994-95 Season. Miniatures. 'Lucky Me'. Eagle 1993. 'Heidi' x Seedling. Mauve pink; 12 reports on 19 plants; 1 year; 40cms; 6.9 rating. Variable reports on this new mauve pink miniature. A Feilding grower has it growing in a container satisfactorily, a Canterbury grower finds repeat slow but quite a lot of flowers when it blooms, not keen on the colour. Weak stems and powdery mildew reported from the Wairarapa. South Canterbury finds it well shaped but not enthusiastic. Te Awamutu and Auckland not impressed and poor growth. Growers from Nelson, North Otago and Tokoroa are all pleased with it. Early days yet we will see what next year brings.
Book (1993) Page(s) 48. Includes photo(s). 'Lucky'. We nicknamed this rose 'Lucky' several years ago, soon after it appeared among our seedlings. It comes from the miniature moss rose 'Heidi'. Although it has lost the moss and prickles, it has inherited the same rose pink and the freedom from disease. The many petalled flowers are a little larger than a true miniature, and this, with the strongly growing bush, make it a candidate for the miniature/patio rose class. This is a new variety from Dawn and Barry Eagle of Southern Cross Nurseries, Christchurch, and sold for the first time through the Rose Society. Southern Cross Nurseries (Dawn and Barry Eagle, Christchurch) will be promoting [this] through District Rose Societies as a fundraising effort on behalf of the 10th World Convention Committee.
