Origin:

Bred by Dr. Felicitas Svejda (Canada, 1966).
Introduced in Canada by Agriculture Canada, Ottawa, Ontario (Central Experimental Farm) in 1979 as 'Henry Hudson'.

Class:

Hybrid Rugosa. (Series: Explorer Series Collection)

Bloom:

White, pink shading, yellow stamens. Moderate, clove fragrance. 20 to 25 petals. Average diameter 3". Medium, double (17-25 petals), flat bloom form. Occasional repeat later in the season. Rounded buds.

Habit:

Armed with thorns / prickles, bushy, dense, spreading. Dark green, wrinkled (rugose) foliage.

Height: 2' to 4' (60 to 120cm). Width: 2' to 4' (60 to 120cm).

Growing:

USDA zone 3a and warmer. Very hardy. Disease susceptibility: disease resistant.

Notes:

In September 1998, the Montreal Botanical Garden (Le Jardin Botanique de Montreal) carried out a survey of its roses' resistance to black spot, powdery mildew and rust. This is one of the outstanding varieties which showed a 0% to 5% infection rate. The data were taken on well-established roses.

The Swedish Rose Society recommends Henry Hudson for northern Sweden.
