'Double Yellow Persian' rose References
Article (magazine) (2023) GC-MS analysis revealed the major scent components of R. foetida and R. foetida var. bicolor were geranyl acetate, 2-phenylethanol, and 2-phenylethyl acetate, each rose with different ratios. The main scent component of R. foetida f. persiana was caryophyllene. The ratio of hydrocarbons was high in R. foetida and its sport cultivars. Characteristic aromatic components of R. foetida and its sport cultivars in this study were the fatty acid derivatives (E, E)- and/or (E, Z)-2,4- decadienal (2,4-DA), (E, E)-2,4-decadienol (2,4-DO), and (Z)-jasmone. In addition, trace amounts of methyl dihydrojasmonate was detected in R. foetida (data not shown). These components are unreported for the plant genus Rosa. ....the unpleasant odor of R. foetida and its sport cultivars is likely caused by the fatty acid derivatives, 2,4-DA and 2,4-DO

According to the dendograms ‘Persiana’ is genetically identical with Rosa foetida, the yellow Turkish rose. Their similarity index is 100%. Only one or possibly several mutations separate them from each other. It is only the number of petals that morphologically distinguishes the two varieties from each other.
Website/Catalog (27 Jul 2011) Includes photo(s). Rosa ‘Double Persian’ It has bright yellow, double, cupped, medium-sized flowers and is usually an abundant and early bloomer and forms a compact, very thorny bush. It was figured in the Flore des Serres. [Paul (1848, 1863, 1888, 1903), Rivers (1854, 1857, 1863), FS f.374/1848]. Horticultural & Botanical History Bred by John Williams at Pitmaston, England in 1828 from the single Austrian Briar, Rosa foetida.
History at Camden Park Obtained from Veitch’s Nursery in 1849 in the same importation as ‘Narcisse’. Not new to the colony but Macarthur believed it to be rare. [ML A1980-3]. Included in a handwritten list of roses dated 1861, probably intended for a new edition of the catalogue that was never printed. [MP A2943].)
Article (misc) (Jun 2007) Apparently R.foetida Persiana may be a natural mutant, as Mr. Luciano Arcangeli reported sighting several plants in completely uninhabited parts of the extreme northern Himalayas, where a possible natural mutant with cerise red to crimson red flowers is also found.

Translation: R. foetida 'Persiana' ... Luciano Arcangeli reminded us of having found many plants in the Karakorum, in wild places towards 3200 m. in height, where no one has ever lived. This is to argue that it is either a "species" or a natural hybrid.
Book (2001) Page(s) 20,22.
Translation: Gulmit location, 2200 m. of altitude, 2 June [1994] In the beautiful Gulmit Valley the cultivated fields had two types of rose as border hedge: one identical to R. foetida 'Persiana' as a flower and .... it stinks, but much larger, and a bright red, double, as well smelling of Foetida, even in large bushes. The cuttings made from these bushes did not take root, but a friend who was with us, Luciano Arcangeli, took one with a piece of root, which is growing. Trust us that he will soon be able to give us a seedling, because the flower is beautiful.
