I've been informed that Fabian Ducher sells this rose

How can such an important rose, having eight thousand decendants, disappear from gardens and commerce? I wonder. Has anyone of the senior HMF members seen this rose or knows someone who has? And has anyone an explanation as to why this rose has perished, unnoticed?

I have a vague memory that hmf lists 60,000 rose cultivars.

Yes, I do realize there is a huge number of roses, but most of them don't even have any progeny. I click on the "descendants by generation" button on HMF a lot and I've learned that 8000 descendants means this rose must have been one of the good ones. I'm curious as to why it perished; not enough frost hardiness, better roses amongst its own progeny, over-propagated and sickly plant, now that's just me phantasizing, but still, it's a serious question: why? I thought maybe someone had seen Sunburst "in person" and could shed some light on it. From the old pictures, it looks a gorgeous rose.

Have you read all the reference pages? the comments from H R Darlington in 1921 are informative

With 8000 descendants there is a good chance that quite a few of them are better than the original, such is the nature of breeding...
