Engraving of 'Magnafrano' from the 1909 Peter Henderson & co catalogue, page 134. This is obviously taken from the photograph of Magnafrano in the 1907 catalogue. I find it interesting because firstly it shows that some catalogue illustrations were copied from photographs, and secondly, it demonstrates how the placement of the individual blooms etc were 'tweaked' in the engravings.

Conard & Jones 1907 RICH RED HYBRID TEA ROSE MAGNAFRANO THE EVER-BLOOMING GENERAL JACQUEMINOT Magnafrano is the result of a cross between the Splendid Hybrid Perpetual Rose "Magna Charta" with the beautiful and well-known Tea Rose, "Safrano." It was named after both parents, "MAGNAFRANO." It combines the hardiness and vigor of the Magna Charta with the free-blooming habit and delightful fragrance of the Tea Roses. The flowers are extra large, frequently 4 to 5 inches across, very regular, full, double and deliciously sweet. The color is a deep, rich, crimson rose, far more brilliant and beautiful than shown on front cover page. The bush is a strong, upright grower and a constant and most abundant bloomer. We predict that a rose bed full of Magnafranos will give more solid satisfaction to its owner than any other similar investment he could make.
