Alister Clark.  Hybridisation at "Glenara".
A seedling, especially a tea rose, requires some age before it can show its true worth, and although  not attractive in Spring may be really fine in Autumn and Winter.  Take roses such as Louis Tarboreich, G. Nabonnand, Madame C. P. Strassheim, Mrs. Frank Guthrie, Australia Felix, General Schablikine, Peace ansd Sophia King.  One could easily overlook them in the Spring, but in Winter they are the pride of the garden.

[From "The story of the gigantea hybrids", by Alister Clark]
Of the older roses I still grow La France, Zephirine Drouhin, Socrates (for its scent), Gloire de Rosomanes, Souv. de David d’Angers, Mme. Alfred Carrière, Prince Camille de Rohan, Capitaene Millet, Comtesse Dusy, Princesse de Radziwill, Louis Tarboreich, Maréchal Niel, Frau Oberhofgartner Singer, Frau Rose Benary, La Tosca, E. von Kesselstadt, Franz Deegen, Goldelse, Crepuscule, Comtesse de Noghera, Mme. C. P. Strassheim, Augustine Guinoisseau, Peace, Georges Schwartz (the best yellow rose in the world)*, G. Nabonnand, and right useful they are as seed and pollen parents, also as garden roses.

SOME GARDEN ROSES. [...] One of the Best. Louis Tarboreich.  -  Is one of the best of garden roses. The colour is hard to describe, a mingling of rose and cream with a violet shading, is somewhat near the mark. It makes a handsome plant with fine foliage, on which I have never seen mildew even in a bad season. It flowers plentifully and continuously and is first-class for cutting.
