'Agréable' rose References

The Pleasant Purple rose bears this Name only in the 1811 and 1851 Wilhelmshöhe nursery catalogues and the 1808 and 1825 Schelhase, Kassel catalogues. In the "List of the roses found in the garden of the Archducal Schloss Weilburg", 1834 (Schloss Weilburg was in Baden near Vienna), it is listed as R. gallica under no. 180. It may be a cultivated gallica bred by Schwarzkopf and since lost. The colour of the flower in the watercolour painting is not very purple. No rose similar to this is known today.
