(1909) Page(s) 73. I thought I could achieve the goal easily by pollinating a rambler with Polyantha. This was terribly simple, but the dear children which originated looked quite different than I had expected, and I accepted that the Chose will not be so easy. Thereupon I pollinated ramblers on polyantha roses, also montlyl roses on ramblers and vice versa. The suprises were great; the common Monthly rose Ordinaire crossed with Daniel Lacombe and Ruga, produced wonderful ramblers with magnificent foliage, similar to Rosa laevigata, the blooms single and semi-double. The grafted seedlings attained a height of 1 1/2 m and were my first pride... But in the next year I saw pictures of the rambler Crimson Rambler, so that I saw myself quite disappointed in my nice hopes. Still I have up to now directed my attention towards Ramblers, and I can say that perseverance has rewarded me. It was indeed easier to breed new ramblers with Crimson Rambler. We have from this quite a number of good ramblers and polyantha varieties. The rambler Tausendschön also descends from it, and my further experiments with the latter have given me surprising results.
