Yes, some features are not active until your membership is confirmed. You'll find a button on your member page to resend the confirmation email. Please double check your email first as this problem is almost always because of an error in one's email address.
Also, did you answer the question on the first page about the position of the letter. That question is there to prevent computer automated sign ups.
Please let us know how you make out.

Please read your response and realize that i cannot access a site that I am not authorized to access. Why not just authorize me??

You are not able to access ALL the features but your ability to reply here demonstrates you are able to sign in (automatically).
Simply click the orange MY HMF ACCOUNT at the upper right to view your member page where you'll find the resend button as mentioned earlier.
The member confirmation process is automated and involves several steps which are a bit cumbersome to do manually.
