St. Cecilia ® rose photo
Rose photo courtesy of Ben_in_Melbourne
I chose St Cecilia purely based on it's scent which I would describe as myrrh but it's not overpowering like other David Austins which make me turn my nose! The fragrance is always detectable and has hints of almond blossom which I find delicious but others don't seem to like it as much as I do, so it's definitely an acquired taste. Blooms are a very light pastel pink, heavily petalled and shallowly cupped but occasionally ones that look like peony roses form and those are just beautiful!

I highly recommend Pope John Paul II for anyone looking for a strongly fragrant white rose! It has a great habit, very well branched and is always covered in mid green foliage from head to toe! Plus the pure white blooms just seem to glow in the heat of the day! And I almost forgot to mention that it is currently has 23 blooms on it! Hopefully this shot of the entire bush says it all.

Elle rose photo

This is the most care free rose in my garden! It is constantly pumping out flush after flush and has a great bushy habit with glossy mid green foliage which is very disease resistant! If you want a carefree rose, then I highly recommend this one!

The blooms from early summer were attacked by thrip leaving them with ugly brown edges, but the whole bush has bounced back now and here is a shot of one of the many perfectly formed blooms from the 3rd flush this season! (mid summer)

A typical example of the blooms you'll get from Elle. They vary from pink to peach but are more often than not this colour for me. Blooms are quite loose in form and don't have that many petals (25-30?) but the upside is the sweet fruity rose scented blooms which remind me of bubblegum!

Last bloom for the year (end of autumn here in Melbourne) and I just had to cut it and bring it inside because it is just absolutely perfect! Big and blousy with a beautiful spiraling form and lovely citrus/lemonade fragrance to go with it! I'm still somewhat unsure about the colour as I bought it for it's fragrance but it is growing on me! I do find the colour of the bloom does vary depending on several conditions but this shot shows it as close to how I perceive the colour at this time of year (taken early morning).

Stephens' Big Purple rose photo

Bush shot of Stephens Big Purple. It has a good habit but I would say somewhat more open compared to some of my other roses. The fragrance doesn't always seem to be there but when it is, the perfume is strong and rich old rose to my nose. Leaf hoppers and spidermite seem to like it too but it usually bounces back after an attack!
