Oh Margaret! Why? because it's a beast?

The property at Renmark (Ruston's) was on the market for 4 years, with prospective (but not eventual) buyers promising to sign the contract "next week", so it was neglected in that time. You should have seen how the bracteata in the photo spread along the cut-flower rose beds, following the irrigation lines.
You can't kill it with glyphos or blackberry spray, even when there's no risk of off-target damage.

Margaret, may I ask for a comment on the "unpleasant fragrance", just wondering what it would be akin to. Call it morbid curiosity.

I haven't grown it for over 30 years. There's one I can check in a few days' time.

Stunned to learn and confirm J&P is only offering this in tree form for 2021. It is a very solid rose and off to a good and enthusiastic start with growers and they basically have pulled the plug.

5 years later and they have not! It is available for purchase in J&P's website right this moment.

What an absolute oddball.

The unpopular colour, the usung, under the radar release, the unpopular climbing miniature class, the unpopular extreme thorniness, the fact no nurseries carry it presently, the fact that the last pictures and comments are from 2012-2015 (That's apparently 10+ years ago, crazy to say it...)

Based on all of this, does anyone grow this still or can this be assumed extinct?

Clearly it is not extinct as it is listed on HMF in nine gardens within the USA.
Beauty is very much according to the individual.

You'll find many people don't update their garden listings as diligently as you'd think. I know for a fact that one of the person in the gardens listed does not grow it anymore. I know also I have not touched my own garden list here in some 5 years. "Clearly" is a bit much. :)

The color is very cool in person. Honestly, the only thing wrong with the rose was 1. it climbs and 2. black spot. Otherwise, it was super cool.
