SE Arizona, USDA zone 9, Sunset zone 12
Purchased from Rogue Valley for delivery in September 2024. Plant was in excellent condition on arrival. Due to the unusually late intense heat (100F+ till the last week in Oct.), I kept the plants from this RVR order in a shaded patio through October. Maman has been healthy and vigorous, sending out long canes already.

Small Sunny Garden 2, begun 2021, southeastern Arizona, USDA zone 9, Sunset zone 12

Paradise, budded, container-grown plant from Home Depot, was the first rose I planted in the new garden.

July 7, 2023: Paradise is doing remarkably well in the middle of our heat dome, temps regularly exceeding 106 F/41 C daily with single digit humidity and high UV. At this point I only ask healthy survival! Blooms are small and poorly formed, and some new growth turns dry between waterings. But the bush continues to look robust. It receives extra protection from a NW patio overhang and decking.

*Growing in southern Arizona, Sonoran thornscrub at about 2500 ft altitude, USDA zone 9, Sunset zone 12*

Bought from ARE in 2022, planted out during a mild spell that winter.

04-2023 Mrs. F has taken her time leafing out and setting buds. She has lovely foliage. First bloom opened 04-25-23. Excellent fragrance and color already. Seems a bit thirsty for her size; will watch that.

July 7, 2023 Mrs. F is struggling with our current heat dome, temps in excess of 106 F/41 C daily, single digit humidity, and high UV. I think the very loose soil, though amended, is doing her no favors. Some dieback has occurred already. As this is still quite a small plant, first year in the ground, I don't know whether she will pull through. I hope so, as I love the style of the foliage and flowers! She is well mulched with sawdust and receives frequent deep soakings. Fingers crossed!

Oct. 31, 2024 Lost, sadly. I won't be replacing Mrs. F unless/until I can give her an improved planting area with some shade. Such a beauty!

*Growing in southern Arizona in Sonoran thornscrub at about 2500 ft altitude, USDA zone 9, Sunset zone 12, loose, porous soil*

Bought from ARE in 2022, planted out during a mild spell that winter.

04-2023 First bloom flush is over. It was early and quite full--some 13 buds even on a still very small bush! Fragrance at this point mild but very pleasant.
Bush is planted in full sun. Has been thirsty but not overly so considering the number of flowers.

July 7, 2023 The Archduke is struggling with our current heat dome, temps exceeding 106 F/41 C daily, single digit humidity and high UV. I think most of the trouble began with rabbits munching the stems of this still-very-small bush. It is definitely still alive, and I have hopes it will pull through once the weather shifts. It receives deep soakings as well as the occasional cooling spraydown. Well mulched with sawdust. Even with the weather I had to pinch off two or three flower buds recently as he still wanted to bloom, so not going semi-dormant as easily as I could wish..

Oct. 31, 2024 The Archduke has settled in well, though is still small. It is beginning to put out buds as temperatures have finally dropped into the 80s just last week. A real winner in this dry garden with poor soils and intense sunlight.
