Might the black stems and mildew be downy mildew. Maybe take a look at the photo's of my comment on Home Run from Carruth.

Thanks for the advice.
I have not been able to find the photos you are telling me but I have searched the internet. It looks like what my rose bush has. However, in the areas where the black spots are, there are some small mealybugs although they are almost like small scales and are not seen in the image. Recently it was infested with ants.
But I think that by repelling the ants with poison, pruning and using some alcohol on the trunk the problem was solved. The inside of the stem is healthy so I think I can be calm.

I know those aphids with that downy stuff from apple-trees, they are called over here appelbloedluis or wollige bloedluis: (literally translated) Blood-aphids. ((Eriosoma lanigerum)) They shed wax-threads.
In apple trees, those aphids can cause/transfer canker.
Do You have photo's of Your critters?

Hi Jay-Jay!
What you tell me does not seem to be the problem but thank you for your comments. The creatures are the small brown spots on the trunk. I think they are called rosebush scales. I looked on the internet and apparently they can be treated with alcohol. But I really don't know if they are related to the black spots. Once I treated them with alcohol, the black regions stopped progressing but I will have to wait a little longer to confirm.

The rose bush now has about seven new shoots. I will upload some photos here when these have formed leaves and I can see the color of the new secondary stems formed.

Hi! I am looking for the Rhonda climbing rose. My family had it when I was growing up, probably not long after if first came out. I finally decided to start looking for it. I guess it might have been easier to find 30 years ago. Sigh..

If anyone knows where I can find this rose in the United States, I would appreciate the help!

Thank you!
Rhonda

If you click on Plants Search/lookup in the left-hand menu, then type in Rhonda and click on Search, then click on Rhonda it will take you to the rose's page. Then click on the Buy From tab at the top right, and a list of nurseries selling it will come up. Ignore the ones described as historical archives. There are 2 active nurseries listed as selling it in the US, and one in Canada. There is also a Photos tab you might enjoy looking at..

Thank you. I looked at all of the nurseries listed, and only found it in Germany! But I will look again just to make sure I didn't miss one.

It has been offered from time to time by Northland Rosarium. I bought one which didn't survive a cold winter. You might contact them to see if they still have the mother plant.

Are they now. I might try another one, if they propagate more than one. Maybe a little more TLC will keep it alive. It is a lovely rose.

Reach out and tell them you are also interested! And that is extra incentive for them! :)

Hello! I am looking for "Rosa Mario Lanza" to plant at the Italian Tenor's ancestral home in Italy.
I would greatly appreciate any advice or suggestions to aid me with my search.
The details of the rose are as follows:
Yellow blend Hybrid Tea.
Registration name: HORaardvark
Exhibition name: Mario Lanza
Bred by Colin P. Horner (1933-2005) (United Kingdom, 1999).
Introduced in United Kingdom by Warley Rose Gardens, Ltd. in 2000 as 'Mario Lanza'.
It was last listed in the UK's RHS Plant Finder in 2005 and has not been commercially available since.
I have so far been unable to find a living plant. It would be so amazing to be able to plant this in Italy to commemorate him.
