'Estelle' rose References
Book (Apr 1999) Page(s) 42-43. Estelle Gallica. Breeder unknown, pre-1810. The author cites information from different sources... Flesh pink... Blossom small, full; color pink, shaded flesh....was at the Soucelle château; mentioned by Prévost.
Book (Jul 1998) Page(s) 80. Estelle Before 1810 (?). Habit upright shrub (1 m tall); prickles, minute bristles. Foliage: medium green; elliptical leaflets, quite large, fine and serrated, often 7 per leaf. Bloom: in pairs or per 3; medium size, double, flat; quartered; long sepals. Colour: pink, paler on the edges. Fragrance: moderate. Very curiously we could not find any old source mentioning this variety. Only Gravereaux mentions it in his study Les roses de l'impératrice Joséphine (No. 127), mentioning that this rose figures in the collection of the castle of Soucelles in Anjou: it would be therefore from before 1810. He considers, naturally, that it had been at Malmaison.
Book (1912) 127. Estelle.- Provins. Etait au château de Soucelle; citée par Prévost. [questionable: no mention in Prévost's catalogues of 1829 and 1830]
