HMF distinguishes between breeding year and introduction year. We have added 1887 for year of introduction.

Without having the rose..... the 2003 reference says "medium height".

Thanks, Patricia. I haven't grown Hybrid Perpetuals before, so would that compare to a medium height for a hybrid tea or floribunda, for example?

It's interesting that the 19th-century foundlings which were runty where we collected them, doing it tough on roadsides or in derelict gardens or churchyards, have mostly behaved like shrub-climbers when we planted them at Renmark, with regular drip-irrigation and fertilisation. Your rescued Dr Hogg was heading towards 6' last week, Patricia.

I don't grow too many either, Dianne. So I guess a medium height to slightly taller HT would be equivalent.
