I'm a little surprised to see that no one has made the cross Lord Penzance x Lady Penzance. That would be kind of special, really. A fragrant leafed rose that would likely look a lot like foetida bicolor and be at least a tad bit healthier.

The rose Vintage Gardens sells as Lord Penzance appears possibly to have a rather different lineage than the one you state? Is there more than one rose known by this name?

It's possible but it's more likely we're using different references and we'll need to follow up. Thanks for taking the time to point out this discrepancy.

Although the flowers are trivial and spring-only, this rose gives me more pleasure than any other in my garden.
However, it will sucker if grown on its own roots.
