It looks like a climbing sport also occurred in Australia. Listed with a date of 1907, discoverer not named. Arthur Moore, J. Horticulture of Australasia Feb. 4, 1910.
I did come across a 1908 Australian newspaper reference to it being newly introduced, so clearly a sport must have occurred in Australia before the European climbing form, unless they are of course the same sport and it was introduced in Europe without acknowledgement of its Australian origin.
