(1 of 6) Found in Quincy, California at a property located on East Main St. Quincy began as a Gold Rush town in 1852, where a year earlier an immigrant from Massachusetts named Louise Clappe arrived. Using the pen name “Dame Shirley”, Louise wrote about life in the gold mining camps published as the “Shirley Letters”.
