The only mention of a Beatrice Berkeley in any public record in Australia is Beatrice, wife of the Second World War serviceman Otton Keith Berkeley, born in Homebush in 1916. But there is no reason why Mrs Fitzhardinge should know her or want to name a rose after her. The Fitzhardinges were closely related to the Berkeley family and to the Barons Berkeley of Berkeley Castle (family name Fitzhardinge). But online records of the British peerage disclose not a single Beatrice Berkeley. So the dedication of this rose is a mystery.
