Source: Chios RoseOGR found on the island of Chios which is about 7 km away from Turkey. The island was under Ottoman rule until 1912. A comment on the website houzz in 2016: "It surely must be a rose which at the end of the 19th century must have been quite popular in Europe (especially places like Italy or France) since it found its way to Chios island which at the time was actively into shipping commerce with these parts of the world. Chios has been the gateway of many other plants into 19th and early 20th century Greece"
