'Pergolèse' (France, Moreau-Robert 1860) ...I was disappointed in the first two summers: a garish magenta-red grinned at me each time I passed by. And the promised rebloom...failed to materialize. In the third summer such a beautiful rose emerged from the ugly duckling: The garish tones became a mild, lighter purple-red and cherry-red, fading to lilac-purple. The blooms are now very similar to those of Gallicas. The inner petals lie like curly locks around the green eye, which is sometimes yellow. ....This time she gave me at the end of summer a couple of blooms.
