Dr. A. S. Thomas.  A Victorian View of the New Roses.
Red Pinocchio: A very dark Floribunda with large, semi-double flowers. A seedling of Rosenmarchen which was re-named 'Pinocchio' in America. It raises an interesting point in interpretation of the rules of nomenclature.  Had this been a sport of Rosenmarchen, the name Red Pinocchio would have been unacceptable as, by inference, it would sanction the re-naming of Rosenmarchen. It need not have been called 'Red Rosenmarchen,' of course, for any name would have been permissible as in the case of Ophelia, Mme. Butterfly, Rapture, Lady Sylvia and other sports. However, as it is a seedling, the raiser is entitled to call it Red Pinocchio is he so chooses.

Harry H. Hazlewood.  The New Roses of 1951. Hybrid Polyanthas or Floribundas.
Red Pinocchio (Boerner, 1947). Rich velvety red fragrant blooms in clusters of 15 or more. The colour deepens as the flower ages. This is the best of this type for this year. ('Pinocchio'  is the illegitimate name for  'Rosenmarchen' but as 'Red Pinocchio' is declared to be a seedling the name appears to be in order. However it is an interesting point for an authoritative ruling).

Herbert C. Swim. Newer Roses Offered in the United States for 1947-48
Red Pinocchio looks very good indeed. Mr. Boerner produced it from a seedling of Pinocchio crossed to Donald Prior. It is outstanding for its deep velvety-red colour and its lasting quality as well as the frilled appearance of the open flower.
