One of my favorite roses! In my Jacksonville, FL (9b) garden it does take more care than the tea or multiflora roses, but rewards you with multitudes of very large, formal, long stem, high centered, moderately fragrant roses! It will grow into a large shrub but can be kept at 4 foot. I grow 3, own-root specimens together in very rich, very moist compost (this is the extra care I'm talking about). To grow well and produce, it has to have lots of water, very rich, heavy loam and lots of morning to mid-day sun with dappled afternoon shade. She does have some stiff thorns but they're scant compared to most hybrid tea roses. I will always have this rose in my garden.

Purchased as a two gallon own root plant from ARE March 2011. Plant was slow growing it's first year in the ground with not much bloom. Second year, growth is vase shaped and about five feet tall, still fairly slow to bloom. I moved plant from its home near Archduke Charles, fearing that it would grow too large there, to an empty space of the garden. It should be allowed to sprawl now. Easy Does It and Spiced Coffee are the nearest neighbors. I'm also considering a white to add to the mix, perhaps Trinity.

August 2012, I discovered chilli thrips in the garden and BD was indeed infected. Cut bush back to four feet and she bounced back without a problem.

April 2013- After a very fungus-y Spring, BD looks like she's ready to bloom. A good 7/10 flowers so far this year have balled, but hopefully this next round will do better as there will be more heat.

Dec 2013- Moved BD to new property, but she did not appreciate being relocated one bit. Still in a pot for now.

4/2014- died
