'Rosa gallica var. conditorum Dieck' rose Description

Bloom:
Crimson and purple.. Strong fragrance. Average diameter 4". Medium to large, semi-double to double, borne mostly solitary, cluster-flowered bloom form. Once-blooming spring or summer.
Habit:
Bushy, spreading, upright, well-branched. Matte, medium green foliage. 5 to 7 leaflets.
Height: 3' to 5'7" (90 to 170cm). Width: up to 3' (up to 90cm).

Notes:
Probably came to Hungary from Anatolia with the confectioners of the Ottoman Empire in the early 16th century. A watercolour by Conrad Gesner (before 1565) possibly shows 'Conditorum'.
