In light of there being so many pictures of roses going around under the name of 'Rose du Roi', I'm uploading some of my plant from Vintage Gardens, who propagated theirs as a reversion from 'Panachee de Lyon'. I've had to try and improve my poor photography to increase sharpness and decrease exposure, but no color alterations were made. This picture from May 2017 -- four years after planting it as an own-root band -- shows the general size and habit of the plant just as the first flush begins. Blooms appear muddled due to deficiencies in my old iPhone camera.

This picture from May 2017 -- four years after planting it as an own-root band -- shows a cluster of buds and some foliage. Color is pretty accurate, except for lacking some of the smoky purple shadings.

I've had to try and improve my poor photography to increase sharpness and decrease exposure, but no color alterations were made. This picture from May 2018 -- five years after planting it as an own-root band -- shows the size and general habit of the plant. Bloom color is muddled. I've come to learn that this rose benefits from having its canes shortened by about one-third in late Winter to prevent the canes from being too top-heavy due to ever-shorter distances between the growth buds as one goes up the canes. Even so, have a few bamboo stakes ready. I've also found that a harder prune after the first flush -- cutting canes again by half -- results in much more branching down below, balancing this rose's tendency to grow top-heavy later on.

I've had to try and improve my poor photography to increase sharpness and decrease exposure, but no color alterations were made. This picture from October 2014 -- one year after planting it as an own-root band -- shows some late-season blooms atop much new growth that emerged after the first flush back in May. Quality of picture is poor, but I'm sharing it to show the size of the late-season blooms.

This picture from May 2014 -- one year after planting it as an own-root band -- shows the gawky habit of 'Rose du Roi -- original' as a baby. The sprawling canes are extensions of the cutting from which the rose was produced, whereas the stout cane emerged from the roots.
