The text in your quote from the Journal des Roses of 1896 page 56 has a mistranscription. The true text reads "mis au commerce en 1886", not 1880.

I have a foundling which may be this rose (although it isn't on the early Australian catalogues known to us). It's planted in heavy clay dosed with gypsum, and is suckering mildly. I suppose that could be the rugosa ancestry. Does Geschwind's Orden sucker?

Our foundling (I don't know whether it's Geschwind's Orden or Gem of the Prairies) has a very short flowering season.
