*Growing in southern Arizona, Sonoran thornscrub at about 2500 ft altitude, USDA zone 9, Sunset zone 12*

Purchased as a 1 gal plant from Antique Rose Emporium spring 2022. Waiting for moister weather to plant out. (Also waiting till I have plenty of rabbit protection as they are thick around here!)

04--2023 Safrano is growing well against a south-facing wall; plant seems quite vigorous now. Blooms are coming more frequently after a slow start; they have great substance. I disliked the scent of the first few flowers, but it is much better now. Bloom color is holding surprisingly well in our strong sunlight. Some trouble with thrips but nothing else.

July 7, 2023 Safrano is holding its own in the middle of our current heat dome, with temps exceeding 106 F/41 C daily, single digit humidity and high UV. It is doing just as I had hoped: gone relatively dormant with little apparent dieback. Some brown leaftips as well as leaf loss due to weather and also insects (grasshoppers, I think), but no other signs of trouble so far. It receives a deep soaking probably two or three times a week at present as well as an occasional cooling spraydown.
